Crews with the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) are cleaning up and making repairs after a sewer main broke in Creve Coeur. The break is located on property owned by St. Louis Priory School. MSD has contained the break, which extends north of the school within Creve Coeur Creek and just north of Interstate 40/64, and cleanup is underway.
On Tuesday, October 23, MSD crews discovered a broken 12-inch wastewater pipe located on the southeast portion of the school property while investigating an odor complaint. Approximately 46,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed into the nearby Creve Coeur Creek.
MSD crews will continue to work throughout the day and evening to repair the broken main and expect to complete the cleanup of 2,000 feet of creek within the week. None of the sewage is in areas affecting school activities.
MSD asks residents to avoid the area while they can make the necessary repairs and clean up the sewage spill. MSD has posted signs warning the public to avoid areas affected by the break. MSD anticipates this work will go on throughout the week. There is no immediate threat to public health or safety. Sewer services to customers in this area are not affected.
The sewage overflow was reported to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, as required by law.
