How Rates are Calculated
Wastewaster User Charge
The wastewater user charge (WW USER CHG) is the largest portion of your MSD bill. It includes a base charge and a volume charge. The volume charge is based on the amount of water you use.
The amount of water you use is measured in ccf units. One ccf is equal to approximately 750 gallons of water.
Stormwater User Charge
Due to a July 2010 court ruling, the MSD Board of Trustees determined that until final resolution of the court case, MSD's method of funding stormwater services will revert back to a variety of property taxes and a flat per month stormwater service charge on each customer's bill.
The monthly stormwater charge took effect August 1, 2010. The court ruling will result in a significant reduction in stormwater services offered by MSD. These cuts will be announced once the full impact of the ruling has been evaluated.
Residential and commercial customers are subject to $0.24 per month stormwater charge. These customers will see this change on their September 2010 bill.
Multi unit customers are subject to a $0.18 per month stormwater charge. These customers will see this change on their October 2010 bill. Please note, customers who are subject to the $0.18 charge will not see a charge on their September 2010 bill. However, the charge is still effective and they will see two months of charges--$0.36--on their October 2010 bill.
