- Remove wet items and allow them to completely dry before returning them to the home/business.
- Use diluted bleach to kill mildew
- Run a dehumidifier in the basement to pull out moisture. Run the air conditioning if you do not have a dehumidifier.
- Buy drain devices for walk out basement drains to keep debris out and to keep drains from overflowing and flooding the basement.
- Raise water heaters and other basement appliances to keep them dry
- Clean your gutters of leaves and other debris
- Disconnect downspouts from the public sewer system
- Make sure downspouts are still attached to the home and clear of debris so they drain properly
- Make sure laterals are not collapsed, are cleaned and are functioning properly
- Make sure inlets are clean and free of debris
- Window wells need to be clean and free of debris
